Takva wins EurAsia Grand Prix, Autumn Ball takes 6 awards

Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival has announced the award winners of
the festival’s main programme. Winner of the Grand Prix of official
competition EurAsia is TAKVA – A MAN’S FEAR OF GOD by Özer Kiziltan
(Turkey). Estonian film AUTUMN BALL
by Veiko Õunpuu took home a total of six awards, including the main
prize of domestic Scottish Leader Estonian Feature Film Competition.
All awards were handed at the festival’s closing ceremony in Vene
Teater, Tallinn.
The EurAsia jury awarded ALEKSANDER SOKUROV
with a Jury Prize for Best Director for Alexandra (Russia). Jury Prizes
for thesps went to Czech Republic and Estonia: Jury Prize for Best
Actor was handed to ZDENĔK SVĔRÁK for Empties (Dir. Jan Sverak, Czech Republic) and Jury Prize for Best Actress was given to MAARJA JAKOBSON for Autumn Ball (Dir. Veiko Õunpuu, Estonia). The only Estonian film in EurAsia Competition, AUTUMN BALL, was also awarded with a Special Jury Prize. The jury gave special mentions to two films, CROSSING THE DUST by Shawkat Amin Korki (Irak) and FROZEN by Shivajee Chandrabhushan (India).
The
international EurAsia jury was formed by Chung Sung-woo (South Korea),
François da Silva (France), Jaak Kilmi (Estonia), Ilkka Matila
(Finland) and Juliette Sichel (Czech Republic). EurAsia Grand Prix for
the best film included 10 000 euros sponsored by the city of Tallinn.
Scottish Leader Estonian Feature Film Competition jury awarded AUTUMN BALL
by Veiko Õunpuu as Best Film. Õunpuu is now awarded for the second year
in a row, as his previous film Empty won the main prize last year. The
jury gave a special mention to THE CLASS by Ilmar Raag.
Scottish
Leader Estonian Feature Film Competition jury was formed by Christian
Braschi (France), Arko Okk (Estonia) and Sergei Zemljanuhin
(Russia). Scottish Leader Estonian Film Award for the best film is 50 000
Estonian kroons.
International Federation of Film Clubs (FICC) gives the Don Quijote award to AUTUMN BALL by Veiko Õunpuu. The jury of Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) awards THE MOURNING FOREST
by Naomi Kawase (Japan) as Best Asian Film in BNFF Programme. Estonian
Film-Critics Association’s Critic’s Award goest to AUTUMN BALL by Veiko
Õunpuu. Postimees, the largest daily newspaper in Estonia, awards
AUTUMN BALL by Veiko Õunpuu with a jury prize. Estonian Society of
Cinematographers’ Award for the Best Director of Photography of the
International competition Eurasia goes to CHANKIT CHAMNIVIKAIPONG
for Ploy (Dir. Pen-Ek Ratanaruang, Thailand) and the Award for the Best
Director of Photography of the Scottish Leader Estonian Feature Film
Competition goes to SULEV KEEDUS for Jonathan From
Australia (Dir Sulev Keedus, Estonia). The BNFF Audience Award, 2 000
euros supported by the City of Tallinn, is handed to the audience
favourite 2 DAYS IN PARIS (Dir. Julie Delpy, France).
A
Lifetime Achievement Award to an accomplished film-maker is now handed
for the 4th time at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival. This year
BNFF Lifetime Achievement Award goes to Estonian animation director HEINO PARS (b. 1925), a master of Estonian puppet and object animation.
